What Sets Vericatch’s ELOGS Apart?

WHAT SETS VERICATCH’S ELOGS APART?

Vericatch’s FisheriesApp ELOGS are DFO-certified nationally for: Lobster; Crab; Whelk, Bivalve Mollusks, and Squid; Groundfish (including Redfish, Cod, Turbot, and Halibut); Small Pelagics (including Mackerel, Herring, Alewife, Capelin, and Smelt); and Salmon.

We’re technologists focused on making catch reporting easier so you can spend more time fishing and less time reporting.

Paper logbooks are data tracking tools that are inherently clunky. Electronic logbooks, or ELOGS, are easy to use and take advantage of technology to streamline your catch reporting.

Vericatch’s ELOGS are easier to edit than paper logbooks. Our software proofs your logbook for you so that you don’t have to repeatedly rewrite sections or get into hot water with the DFO. ELOGS are also faster and easier to submit to the DFO – you just press a transmit button rather than mail them in – and less repetitive to fill in – you type something once and next time it will autofill for you.

Here’s how Vericatch’s FisheriesApp ELOGS use technology to make catch reporting compliance easier:

We offer a website and a mobile app

We’re often asked why we have an app as well as a website for our ELOGS.

We developed both because each platform is designed to work optimally in different environments. With our ELOGS, you can set everything up online and then use our FisheriesApp on your phone or tablet to easily input and manage your data when you’re on the water.

Mobile apps are faster, more convenient, and easier to navigate than mobile websites when it comes to data collection at sea. You don’t even have to have a stable internet connection for them to work effectively (more on that below).

Our FisheriesApp ELOGS store your data locally on your device and we back it up for you securely on the cloud. Having access to your historical data on your phone means it’s always at your fingertips. It is generally much slower to access your data if you’re using an ELOG provider who only has mobile website option instead of an app as it can be very sluggish to retrieve the information you need when you need it without an app.

We’ve created two options that work the way you do, as those who prefer websites to apps can still use our mobile-optimized website for data collection.

Works whether or not you have an internet connection

Works whether or not you have an internet connection

Our FisheriesApp ELOGS offer true online/offline functionality. The only time you need to be connected to the internet is when you’re actually submitting your data to the DFO, everything will always work whether or not you’re online or have reception.

That’s another reason we went with an app for catch reporting – apps are more stable offline than mobile websites. With our FisheriesApp you can start or end your trip at any point, and your data will be stored securely until you’re ready to send it to the DFO. And we verify your data before you transmit it, so you know you won’t be hearing from the DFO about incorrect submissions.

Easy to use

Easy to use

We didn’t just want to make a digital version of paper logbooks. Instead, we wanted to make something that took advantage of the benefits technology offers to add value to the user. That’s why our ELOGS:

  • Alert you if there are any errors before you transmit your logbooks so you won’t get flagged by the DFO for missing data
  • Let you spend more time fishing and less time reporting
  • Are flexible and designed to work the way you want to rather than being prescriptive or restrictive
  • Protect your data – you’re the only one with access to it aside from what you have to submit to the government, and it’s up to you when you want to submit your logbook to the DFO

We believe in our product so much that we’ve made it free for you to test and try. You don’t have to pay until you’re ready to submit your data to the DFO, so why not get comfortable with ELOGS now before they become mandatory in 2024?
